Project Mentor Program

Dear friends,
I am happy to inform that IEEE Pune Section is launching on a “Project Mentor Program
(IBM)” as part of the Platform for Industry- Academia Interaction (PIAI) Initiative of our
Section.
The program has been agreed in principle by IBM and likely to take off in about a fortnight. I
request cooperation from all to make it a success. Any constructive suggestions are welcome.
Major features of PMP-IBM are
• A Five member team to be formed ( 3 IEEE Student members in final year of
Engineering + 1 Faculty Mentor + 1 IBM Mentor)
• A Project will be selected which is of interest for the team ; Students will work
under the guidance of the two mentors
• Total period for the activity : 4 months ( 1 month for formulation + 3 months for
Execution )
• Project Presentation by Students at the end of activity to a group of experts ( IBM+
IEEE + Faculty members)
• On successful completion , certificates will be awarded to students & Faculty
Mentor jointly by IBM and IEEE Pune Section
• Final year Project for students can be based on this activity and can be submitted to
University
Responsibilities — IEEE Pune Section:
 Identification of Students + Faculty member
 Overall coordination
 Logistic Support for project presentation / certificates etc
Responsibilities — IBM:
 Identification of IBM Mentor
 Identification of Project Activity ( in consultation with others)
Responsibilities — Faculty Mentor:
 Liaison with IBM on technical issues related to project
 Successful completion of the project on time
Other Aspects:
 We should target for about 10 such mentor programs in 2017-18
 Best project may also be awarded

We are planning to identify 10 IEEE mentors from our local colleges. They must be active,
technically competent and must be able to contribute usefully. Please send message
across to all interested among your friends / colleagues / College mates. If some faculty
member are interested (but not a member of IEEE) they should become an IEEE member
immediately to be eligible.
Those interested must send brief biodata with highlights of their technical expertise before
July, 30, 2017 to (which will be shared with IBM)
